About the authors

Mary Auld is a celebrated author of children’s educational books.

Elisa Paganelli was born in Modena, Italy, and since childhood cannot resist the smell of paper and pencils. She attended the Institute of Art and subsequently graduated from the European Institute of Design (IED) in Turin with a degree in illustration. After working as a graphic designer for a communication agency for a few years, she decided to set up her own art and design studio. Elisa devotes most of her time to her passion for images and words. She thinks of herself as a kind of hermit, immersed in her quiet world of nature and books, accompanied by a cup of tea and her beloved pet-assistants. She now collaborates with publishers and other clients all over the world, and also writes for a newspaper’s lifestyle column.

Sir Simon Denis Rattle OM CBE is a British conductor. He rose to international prominence during the 1980s and 1990s, while Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Rattle was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018.

Reviews

“This is an adorable hardcover book that details what a flute is and what context it is played in … The pictures are wonderfully done and do not take up too much room on the page, allowing for a good balance of text and picture … There is also a link to recordings that go along with this book, and they are described in detail in the back. A wonderful way to introduce the flute to young children!”
— Children’s Literature

“[A] delightful book … For any child interested in music, this is a great read, and the book could be useful for children who are considering playing the flute. By blending narrative storytelling and facts, Auld helps readers develop an appreciation for flutes and other woodwind instruments while seeing the hard work playing an instrument involves. The illustrations feature a diverse representation of music lovers. Callouts in the text to accompanying performances from the London Symphony Orchestra bring the music to life. This informative book about flutes can educate children about one specific musical instrument while providing a glimpse into other instruments that are part of an orchestra.”
