Café Life London
An Insider's Guide to the City's Neighborhood Cafés
Jennie Milsom; photography by Hannah Moushabeck and Harry Hall

published 2012 • 7" x 7" • 176 pages • full-color photos • maps
ISBN 9781566568852 • paperback • $20.00

“A handy little book that compiles a good bunch of very nice cafes, hand-picked by the creators of the book... just the right level of detail that you need to decide on whether you want to visit a place or not.” -- London Cycling Bookclub

“This attractive book compiles together a few dozen of London’s most appealing cafes... a well-brewed serving with little froth.”

“This is an essential guide to the well known (and not so much) coffee shops in my favorite city. Coffee shops in any city are a great way to get a real feel for the place, the locals, and soak in the atmosphere. If you are visiting London and want the ‘local’ experience, grab this guide, it will take you into neighborhoods you may never have experienced.” --

An essential companion for anyone committed to discovering the true heart of one of the world's greatest cities

Café Life London is a celebration of London’s flourishing café scene. Whether you live in London or are visiting for the first time, this book will take you on a culinary adventure around 35 independent cafés in popular shopping streets and neighborhoods you may never knew existed.

Each story paints a picture of the café and what you can expect to find there, including the food and drink, the people, and the atmosphere. The café owners tell their story, too, offering first-hand insight into the passion and drive that makes their café such a special place to visit. Whether you’re looking for a contemporary café that serves excellent coffee or a local hangout that’s off the beaten track, you’ll find it here in Café Life London.

Superbly photographed, and filled with many hidden gems, this book is a must-have guide to London’s charming neighborhoods cafés for Londoners and visitors alike.

Jennie Milsom is a British food writer and has worked as a chef and barista in cafés and restaurants in the UK and New Zealand. She lives in London and spends her spare time seeking out great cafés.

Hannah Moushabeck is a Massachusetts-based travel and food photographer. She spent three years as a barista while attending art college.

Harry Hall is a London-based, café-going, freelance photographer who makes his living as a publishing professional.

Media Reviews

“A refreshing addition to the crowded market of London coffee house guides... What is enjoyable about this guide is that of the 34 cafés reviewed, a decent amount of space is given to them all. This is very unlike other guides which just give a run-down of opening hours, a note of which roaster supplies the coffee, detail the espresso machine brand, and that’s it. In this book, the featured cafés get three or four pages each. The owners get generously identified, and given the chance to actually say something about their business... there are many delights within the book...” --
