When Dutchman Harry Kikstra, an experienced mountain guide and climber, wrote his first Rucksack Pocket Summits book, he was still aspiring to climb the “seven summits." By January 2006 he had reached his seventh continental summit, Mt Vinson in Antarctica. That puts his name on an exclusive list of under 100 climbers ever to achieve this feat.
No previous publisher has produced guidebooks explaining to climbers “how to” climb these challenging mountains. Dunblane-based publisher Jacquetta Megarry, the driving force behind this series, explained “I wanted to produce attractive guidebooks to let walkers experience the thrill of climbing the world’s great mountains, even if for some it’s only from their armchairs." Born in 1970 in the Netherlands, Harry Kikstra lives in Amsterdam. Since gaining a Master's degree in business management, he has combined commercial work with an adventurous life that takes him all over the world. He created his popular website 7summits in 1999 when he became a full-time adventurer, organizer and leader of expeditions, including some TV productions.
