Still unscathed by mass tourism, this friendly and stable Central American country is attracting growing numbers of ecologically minded, discerning travelers. This guide highlights the growth of the "ecotourist" in Belize and how he or she can best get to all the attractions while introducing the reader to the history and background of the country.
Meb Cutlack was born in Australia and traveled extensively as a reporter and TV journalist. In 1981 he visited Belize and was so impressed that he moved there. In 1984 he started the weekly Tuesday Beacon, a conservation and tourism newspaper that, in 1990, became the monthly Belize Review. The latter is now the premier conservation and ecotourism magazine in the region with a wide readership throughout Central America and subscribers worldwide.
