With Silent Tread
Frieda Cassin

5" x 7 1/2" • 216 pages
ISBN 9780333776070 • paperback • $13.95

When Marion Aird comes from England to visit her relatives in Antigua, she is soon won over by the lively unconventionality of her cousin Morea Latrobe. But Marion begins to find out that in the close-knit island society there are grim secrets which are known to everybody - except, perhaps, to those most affected by them. And Morea will have to discover the grimmest secret of them all... First published in Antigua in the 1890s, With Silent Tread is a superbly understated evocation of a claustrophobic island community struggling with the bitter legacies of slavery.

Frieda Cassin lived in Antigua at the end of the nineteenth century. Her father was a commission merchant and ship owner. As well as having With Silent Tread published in Antigua by G. A. Uphill in St Johns she was the editor of one of Antigua's first literary journals The Carib.
