Dawning, The
Milka Bajic-Poderegin; translated by Nadja Poderegin

5 1/4" x 8" • 384 pages
Available Options:

The Dawning is a family saga which evolves against the turbulent background of the town of Plevlje (on the confines of Bosnia and Herzegovian) as it emerges from five centuries of enslavement in the wake of the collapse of the Turkish and Austro-Hungarian empires.

The dramatic outline of the novel create a penetrating portrayal of a family, reflects subtly the old customs and way of life, the fight for national identity and historical events resulting in the First World War.

Milka Bajic-Poderegin began writing this novel in 1963 and died in 1971. The Dawning was first published posthumously in Belgrade in Serbo-Croatian in 1987 and has been translated into several languages.
