1) Become familiar with the kinds of books we publish. Request a catalog; order them; buy them from local booksellers or directly from us; read them at your local library.
2) If, after doing this research, you believe your manuscript might fit our list, please send a query letter to the attention of Pam Thompson. The query letter may (but doesn't have to) include any of the following: a writing sample (preferably the opening of the book) of no more than 10 pages, a brief synopsis and biographical information about the author. Send an SASE as well.
3) The only fiction we publish falls into our "Interlink World Fiction" series. Most of these books, as you can see in our catalog, are translated fiction from around the world. The idea behind the series is to bring fiction from other countries to a North American audience. In short, unless you were born outside the United States, your novel will not fit into the series.
4) All of our children's books are picture books designed for ages 3-8. We publish very few of them, and most are co-published with overseas publishing houses. We do not consider unsolicited manuscripts of children's books.
Please, do not: – send a full manuscript unless we request it – send anything without a SASE (that includes adequate postage) – send queries via fax or email (they will NOT be answered) – send poetry or plays (we don't publish any) – call about the status of a query unless we have REQUESTED the manuscript and you have not heard from us for at least three months We cannot be responsible for the return of unsolicited manuscripts that do not follow these guidelines.
Thank you for your interest.
