Russian Gypsy Tales (revised edition)
collected Yefim Druts and Alexei Gessler; translated by James Riordan

5 1/2” x 8 1/2” • 160 pages • b&w illus.
ISBN 1566564425 • paperback • $12.95

These marvelous stories were narrated by gypsies from Leningrad, Novgorod, Moscow, Tula, Smolensk, and Gorky regions, and from Karelia and Siberia. Their tales are passionate, colorful and distinctive, and have little in common with the folk tales of other nations. The gypsy folk song is little known, and the gypsy folk and fairy tale not known at all, making this a unique collection.

James Riordan has published some twenty collections of folk tales from around the world, including The Sun Maiden and The Crescent Moon. He has traveled extensively in search of folk tales.

Yefim Druts
, son of a Moscow rabbi, and the poet Alexei Gessler, have been researching gypsy folklore for many years.

Media Reviews
"A grand collection...The stories are splendid...As a collection of gypsy folklore, this seems to be unique; for readers or storytellers, it's a treasure trove."-Kirkus Reviews
